In plain English
- Yoga is not medical care. We teach movement and wellbeing; we do not diagnose or treat.
- Screening is mandatory before therapeutic and prenatal plans, and honesty in it is a condition of practising with us.
- Prenatal practice needs written obstetric clearance — screening alone is not enough.
- You are responsible for your own limits, your practice space, and stopping when something hurts.
- Online limits are real: no hands-on adjustment, and no emergency response at your mat.
- Your statutory rights are not waived. Liability that cannot lawfully be excluded is not excluded here.
Yoga is not medical care
Read this first
ChandraYog provides fitness, movement and wellbeing instruction. We do not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition. Nothing in our classes, plans, diet guidance, emails or website is medical advice, and nothing takes the place of consultation with a registered medical practitioner.
- Our teachers are certified yoga instructors. They are not your doctors, and they do not act as your healthcare providers.
- Statements about how practice may help with flexibility, stress, sleep, strength or comfort are general descriptions of what yoga can offer — not promises of a clinical result.
- Therapeutic batches such as those for knee and back concerns, sciatica or PCOD/PCOS are adapted group classes, not physiotherapy, medical treatment or rehabilitation programmes.
- Never delay or discontinue medical treatment because of something you read or hear from us.
- In an emergency — chest pain, fainting, severe breathlessness, sudden weakness, heavy bleeding, or any symptom that frightens you — stop and contact emergency services immediately. Do not wait for your trainer.
Your screening duty before you practise
Screening is not a formality. It is how we place you safely, and it is a condition of practising with us.
- Complete the Health-Screening Questionnaire honestly and in full before your first class — and again if you switch to a therapeutic or prenatal batch.
- Therapeutic and prenatal plans cannot be confirmed until your screening has been reviewed by a trainer.
- Where screening or your circumstances require it, provide written clearance from a registered medical practitioner before joining or continuing.
- Tell us immediately if anything changes: a new diagnosis, a new injury, surgery, pregnancy, a new medicine, a hospital stay, or a condition that gets worse.
- If you choose not to disclose something relevant, you accept the consequences of that choice.
The risks you accept
Yoga is generally gentle, but it is physical activity, and physical activity carries risk. By joining a class you acknowledge that you understand and accept the ordinary risks of practising yoga, including:
| Area | What can happen |
|---|---|
| Muscles & joints | Strain, sprain, overstretching, muscle soreness, or aggravation of an existing injury |
| Back, neck & spine | Pain or injury, particularly where there is an undetected disc, vertebral or postural issue |
| Balance & falls | Loss of balance, falls, or injury from falling, especially with dizziness, vertigo or low blood pressure |
| Heart & circulation | In rare cases, an abnormal blood-pressure response or a cardiac event during physical exertion |
| Breathing | Dizziness, hyperventilation, or difficulty breathing, particularly with a respiratory condition |
| Heat & hydration | Dehydration, cramping, overheating or fainting in a warm or poorly ventilated room |
| Pregnancy | Discomfort, or in rare cases a complication, where a contraindication exists or clearance was not obtained |
| Existing conditions | Aggravation of a pre-existing, disclosed or undisclosed condition such as uncontrolled blood pressure, diabetes, asthma or epilepsy |
This is not an exhaustive list. Other risks may exist, including risks specific to your own health, which only you and your doctor can assess.
Risks specific to practising online
- No hands-on adjustment. A teacher on screen cannot physically correct your posture or catch you. You are responsible for practising within your own limits.
- No emergency response. If you become unwell during a class, your trainer may not be able to see or reach you. Keep a phone within reach, and make sure someone at home knows you are practising.
- Your environment. You are responsible for the safety of your own space — clearance around the mat, a non-slip surface, no sharp edges, no unstable furniture, and a safe distance from heat, stairs or glass.
- Your visibility. Depending on your camera angle, your household may be visible to the batch. Please arrange your space before you join.
- Platform limits. Video quality, delays and disconnections are outside our control, and we cannot guarantee an uninterrupted session.
Your responsibilities during practice
- Stop if it hurts. Discomfort is information. Sharp pain, joint pain, numbness, tingling, dizziness, nausea, chest pressure, or breathlessness beyond effort means stop — not push through.
- Work within your range. Use the modification your teacher offers, use props, take a child’s pose, or sit out. Choosing the gentler option is always correct.
- Follow instruction. Practise the sequence as guided, and tell your trainer before class about any limitation you want respected.
- Keep your space and equipment safe. Use a mat that does not slip, and avoid practising on an unsafe surface.
- Do not practise when unwell. Fever, a cold that affects your breathing, acute illness, injury, post-operative recovery or extreme fatigue are reasons to rest.
- Eat and hydrate sensibly. Do not practise immediately after a heavy meal or while dehydrated.
- Attend with an adult present if you are between 13 and 17, as required by the Terms of Service.
Conditions that need special attention
The conditions below do not automatically stop you practising, but they require honest disclosure, and usually medical clearance and a modified practice. Screening covers them in detail; the summary here is a prompt, not a checklist of what you may do.
- Heart conditions, high or unstable blood pressure, or a history of stroke.
- Chest pain, palpitations, or unexplained breathlessness.
- Recent surgery, fractures, or a joint that has been operated on.
- Spine, neck, knee, shoulder or hip problems; slipped disc; sciatica.
- Osteoporosis, or any condition affecting bone strength.
- Asthma or other respiratory conditions.
- Epilepsy, seizures, or a history of fainting or vertigo.
- Diabetes, thyroid conditions, or PCOD/PCOS.
- Hernia, glaucoma, retinal problems, or recent eye surgery.
- Cancer, or ongoing cancer treatment.
- Pregnancy, post-partum recovery, or recent childbirth.
- Any condition for which your doctor has advised caution with exercise.
A note from your trainers
Tell us what you are managing and we will build the room around it. A disclosed condition is something we can adapt for. An undisclosed one is something neither of us can.
Prenatal and post-natal practice
Pregnancy is not a reason to stop moving — but it changes what is safe, and it requires your obstetrician’s involvement. The following applies to every prenatal and post-natal participant.
- Written clearance required
- Before joining a prenatal or post-natal batch you must provide written clearance from your obstetrician or a registered medical practitioner. Screening alone is not sufficient.
- Disclose your stage
- Tell us your trimester, your expected delivery date, whether the pregnancy is multiple, and your delivery history including any caesarean sections.
- Absolute contraindications
- Practice is not offered where, for example, there is ruptured membranes, unexplained vaginal bleeding, placenta praevia after 26 weeks, preterm labour, pre-eclampsia, cervical incompetence, or an ongoing risk of premature labour. If any of these apply, please do not join — and speak to your doctor.
- Relative contraindications
- Conditions such as severe anaemia, poorly controlled blood pressure, gestational diabetes, thyroid disorders, severe obesity, or a history of very sedentary living need individual medical advice before you start.
- Stop immediately if
- You experience bleeding, fluid leakage, contractions, dizziness, fainting, severe headache, blurred vision, calf pain or swelling, chest pain, calf or pelvic pain, or reduced fetal movement. Contact your doctor or emergency services — and tell your trainer after you are safe.
- Post-partum
- Wait for clearance after delivery, especially after a caesarean or a complicated birth, and tell us about diastasis, pelvic-floor concerns or feeding-related discomfort so practice can be adapted.
Pregnancy affects balance, joint laxity, blood pressure and temperature regulation. Even with clearance, you remain responsible for practising within your own limits, and for stopping when something does not feel right.
Acknowledgement, waiver and release

- Release and waiver. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release and waive any claim against ChandraYog Online Yoga Studio, its trainers, employees and contractors arising from your participation in yoga classes, including claims for injury or aggravation of a pre-existing condition — except where the claim arises from our negligence, wilful misconduct, or a breach of a duty that cannot lawfully be excluded.

How you give this acknowledgement
This acknowledgement is given through clear affirmative action — nothing is assumed. You give it by:
- Completing the Health-Screening Questionnaire and ticking the declarations at the end of it; or
- Signing a written acknowledgement where one is provided, for example with a medical clearance; or
- Confirming acceptance during enrolment when we ask you to.
- Where you are between 13 and 17, your parent or legal guardian must give this acknowledgement, and must be present during the session.
- You may withdraw your participation at any time, simply by leaving a class or telling your trainer — no explanation needed.
- Withdrawing consent to the processing of your health data is covered by the Privacy Policy. You should understand that without it we cannot safely continue a therapeutic or prenatal plan.
- This acknowledgement stays in force for as long as you practise with us. If your health changes, it is a new acknowledgement that applies.
Safety questions
